If you are plagued by allergies or asthma, an air filter might help you as they are the best tools for eradicating allergens from the house and also removal of certain particles, odors and gases from the home.

Air filters come in various sizes. There is a centralised, in-home filtration system or portable devices. If you are having problem with the air quality in the whole house, what you need is the centralized filtration system. Otherwise, portable cleaner may serve the purpose of air filtration.

When you have decided to go for air filters, you’ll discover that there are four types of air filters. These are:

Mechanical Filters

This filter works by trapping pollen, dust particulate, smoke and air-borne irritants and pet dander.

Gas Phase Filters

When you just want to remove odors and gases from cooking, paints, perfume etc, you are advised to go for this type of filter. These filters, however, are not recommended for removing allergens in the home.

Electronic Filters

What this filter does is that it traps allergens through electrostatic precipitators with the help of a fan. Electronic filters use electric charges to exert a pull on contaminants.

Hybrid Filters

This is a combination of electrostatic and mechanical filters. These are used to catch allergens rather than gas based contaminants.

Another type of air filters is the Ozone air filter, but it is not environment-friendly.
